Winch 3 used in the play ISNÆTTER

ISNÆTTER: A fusion of dance, theatre and motion design.

Scenographic Interaction Designer Thomas Kaufmanas used 14 Winch 3 units to move 150 square meters of translucent plastic film in a natural and chaotic way above the performers.

This created a very dramatic and immersive effect—enhancing the serious theme of the play.

Thomas Kaufmanas about the project:

"For the ISNÆTTER scenography we took on the challenge of having a fifth performer amongst dancers and actors: a 150-square-meter living ceiling made from translucent plastic film. The material is incredibly sensitive to air and pressure. Animating it is a constant negotiation with design intention: it tears easily if handled too roughly, and always insists on moving in its own way. Working with it means listening closely, adjusting continuously, and respecting the material on its own terms.

To accommodate such a process we developed custom motion-design software that was easy to integrate with the equipment provided by Wahlberg. Thanks to the simple interfacing and incredibly fine-tuned responsiveness of the Winch 3, we were quickly able to focus on the creative process! What looked like rigging became choreography — and the fifth performer never missed a cue!"

About the play:

“ISNÆTTER is a fusion of dance and theatre — a performance about power and desire, based on author Anna Kavan’s cult novel ICE from 1967.

Playwright Amanda Ginman — Reumert Award winner for Mørkt Forår — and acclaimed choreographer Tina Tarpgaard join forces in a performance where dance, text, and sound create an intense and physical portrait of our present.” – Sydhavnteater.dk
